Employers
In addition to the information that USCIS offers employers on Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, and on the E-Verify employment eligibility verification program, we also provide resources to support workplace-based citizenship education and awareness efforts. Employers can promote citizenship among their eligible immigrant employees, which can ultimately benefit both their workplace and the larger community. Below are some of the resources available to you and your business to support citizenship education and awareness.
Outreach Events and Community Engagement
- Hold aninformation session on naturalizationfor your employees who may be eligible to apply for naturalization and invite a local USCIS representative to present on citizenship and immigration topics relevant to your workforce. Topics covered at these sessions include naturalization eligibility requirements, the naturalization process, the naturalization test, and the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship. - Post naturalization information on your company’s intranet to direct staff to USCIS web-based resources. To assist your place of employment, we have sample web page content (PDF, 44.83 KB) with helpful links to key USCIS resources and information.
- Add a widget to your website to easily link to USCIS naturalization information and resources. The widgets are small online applications in English and Spanish that can be embedded on social media sites, blogs, or other web pages to direct users to USCIS web content.
- Visit the Citizenship Public Education and Awareness page to print and distribute outreach materials and posters. You will also find promotional radio and television PSAs that can be added to your webpage.
- Combat immigration scams. Immigration scams and the unauthorized practice of immigration law pose a serious threat to immigrant communities. A variety of educational tools, public service announcements, and information on finding authorized legal assistance are available on our Avoid Scams web page. Provide a link to these resources on your company’s intranet. Post a flyer or poster in your breakroom, lunchroom, or other communal area for your employees.
- Purchase a Civics and Citizenship Toolkit from the U.S. Government Bookstore. The toolkit contains immigration and citizenship publications, handbooks, and multimedia tools designed for organizations helping people prepare for naturalization. Display a toolkit for your employees in a communal area such as a breakroom or lunchroom, or in your Human Resources department.
- Find study materials for the English language test and 2008 version of the civics test.
- Find study materials for the 2020 version of the civics test.

- Offer workplace citizenship education classes. - VisitI-9 Central. Federal law requires that every employer who recruits, refers for a fee, or hires an individual for employment in the U.S. must complete Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. I-9 Central has the answers to your questions about this process.

- Verify your personal information against the same records E-Verify checks with Self Check. Individuals and job-seekers can confirm their records are in order or if a mismatch occurs, and learn how to make updates.

- Take advantage of online resources. Customers can view their benefit requests, receive electronic notification of decisions, and receive real-time case status updates through this online account-based system.
- Visit and link to Settling in the U.S., which provides new immigrants with basic information about living in the United States. On this page, you will also find the Welcome to the United States: A Guide for New Immigrants (PDF, 3.57 MB) . This guide contains practical information to help immigrants settle into everyday life in the United States, as well as basic civics information that introduces new immigrants to the U.S. system of government. We offer the guide in 14 languages online or you may purchase it in English, Spanish, and Chinese through the U.S. Government Bookstore.
