Discover Brousssard, Louisiana

The City of Broussard is where Cajun came to be! Early settlers originally named this area Côte Gelée (Frozen Hills) because of its hilly ridge and the severe winter of 1784. Established as a town in 1884, it was named after Valsin Broussard, a prominent merchant and direct descendant of “Beausoleil” Broussard, who led the first 200 Acadians (later called “Cajuns”) to Louisiana from Nova Scotia. Located in Lafayette Parish, Broussard’s charming downtown is home to many historic homes and buildings, 15 of which are listed on the National Register, and the Old Spanish Trail is now our Main Street. Steeped in history and culture, with the amenities of a modern city, we hope you will discover all that Broussard has to offer!
